Brunk House This 1861 farmhouse features antique farm items, equipment, floral and vegetable gardens depicting country life in Polk County before the turn of the 20th century. Evergreen Aviation Museum - Home of the 'Spruce Goose'

Evergreen Aviation Museum The home of the Spruce Goose, Howard Hughes' incredible flying boat, and dozens of warplanes dating to World War I give the aviation buff plenty to learn and see. In addition to vintage aircraft, there's a gift shop full of aviation trinkets, group tours and educational programs and other events. Open: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily Admission: $11; $10 for seniors, veterans, active military; $7 ages 6 to 18 Location: 3685 NE Three Mile Lane, McMinnville, off Highway 18 Information: 503-434-4180, www.sprucegoose.org

Fort Yamhill, Dayton historic buildings An 1855 Military Blockhouse originally at Fort Yamhill (1855-1866), west of Willamina. This blockhouse was moved in the 1860s from its hilltop site to Grand Ronde Agency, where it served as a jail. It was moved in 1911 to Dayton, where it has been maintained since. While you're in the park, take a walk around town to see historic homes and buildings dating to 1848. A walking tour map is available at city hall, 416 Ferry St., Dayton. Hoover-Minthorn House in Newberg

Hoover-Minthorn House The Hoover-Minthorn House, built in 1881, was the childhood home of President Herbert Hoover. At age 11, an orphaned Herbert Hoover lived with his aunt and uncle, Laura and Dr. Henry Minthorn, from 1885 to 1889. Location: 115 South River St., Newberg Phone: 503-538-6629 Hours: Open March through November - 1-4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays; December and February - 1-40 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays; closed January and holidays. Admission: $2 adults, $1.50 for students and seniors, 50 cents for children 5 through 11.

 Willamina Historical Museum Located in an 1887 Congregational Church, the collection of artifacts and displays reflect this city's unique historic past. Admission: Donations Location: 188 D St., Willamina Information: 503-876-7853.

Yamhill County Historical Museum The largest collection of local artifacts is on display in a historic Poling Memorial church and Miller Log Cabin Musuem at the historic Lafayette site (605 Market Street, Lafayette), which is open on Wednesday and Saturday from 10-4 or by appointment. Admission: $2 for adults, $1 children. The Yamhill County Historical Society is constructing a new facility at 11275 SW Durham Lane.
