Description: The Eyrie Vineyards, founded by David and Diana Lett in 1965, pioneered the first
Pinot noir, Chardonnay and Pinot gris in the Willamette Valley. The vineyards
are located in the Dundee Hills of Oregon and the winery is in nearby McMinnville.
Eyrie (EYE-ree), the Gaelic spelling of the word aerie, is named for the red-tailed
hawks who make their home in the fir trees at the top of the original plantings.
The philosophy of The Eyrie Vineyards, in the vineyard and in the winery, is to
interfere as little as possible with the processes of Nature.
Special
Notes: In 1970, The Eyrie Vineyards produced the first Pinot noir and Chardonnay
in the Willamette Valley, and the New World's first Pinot gris. In 1975, The Eyrie
Vineyards produced the first American Pinot noir to compete successfully with
Burgundy. (Paris, 1979; Beaune, 1980). Join us at Yamhill County's original winery,
to enjoy Eyrie's famously elegant, classic wines, and a taste of Oregon wine history.
